Grandma, Hospital

Posted in Family by xiu1201 on February 6, 2009

I haven’t got a chance to write about this, but 84 year old Grandma (we call her ‘Ah Ma’), got rushed to hospital the other day, after a fall in the toilet. She suffered a minor stroke.

The whole episode jolted all of us that Ah Ma is no longer what she used to be. We sometimes take for granted that her good health will be eternal, and forget that sickness, and poor health is inevitable at such an age.

Also, visits to the Hospital can be quite chilling. Ah Ma is warded in Ward10B, which is categorised for the Senior Citizens. The chilling part is that, I saw 3 patients in the same Ward10B (there are 5 patients in that ward at any one time), passed away, one day after another. And we try to hide the patients’ death from Ah Ma, by pulling the curtains to cordon off what is happening in the next few beds. Death takes people away so fast, for eternity, away from this face of the earth.

On the first few days, I see the elders tearing at the sight of Ah Ma being half-immoblised because of the stroke. I wondered what went through their minds; and so with the little I could do, I text the elders (my elder cousin, my uncles, my aunts),

I always believe that healing takes place in an atmosphere of FAITH. It just takes you to simply BELIEVE that Ah Ma will be healed, and God will do the rest of the job. He is our healer, and we need to take faith in Him and His healing over her. I believe with all my heart and soul that she will be fine.’

And with that childlike faith, and full conviction in God being able to change the situation, and change their attitudes, I sent the message to them. And by God’s grace, the atmosphere changed! The next few days, they visited Ah Ma at the hospital with a cheerful deposition, and a geniune hope that she will recover. As for now, she is regaining strength in her arm and leg.
